ARSENAL HAMMER LEICESTER CITY 1-3

ARSENAL HAMMER LEICESTER CITY 1-3

It was an afternoon to forget for Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City as they were overcome by Arsenal at their own backyard- King Power Stadium.

The foxes started on a wonderful note as Belgian playmaker Youri Tielemans shot them ahead 1-0 in the 6th minute of play.

Reminiscent of the early embers of the game against Benfica in the Europa league on Thursday 25th February, 2020, one would have thought Arsenal were in for the taking.

Jamie Vardy who boasts of an enviable record against Mikel Arteta's side was virtually lost on the day.

Arsenal's Brazilian defender, David Luiz restored parity with a sublime header from a wonderful free-kick to level the scores at 1-1 in the 39th minute of football action.

Things began to work in favour of the gunners with the Ivorian international, Nicolas Pepe causing trouble in all shapes and forms for the Leicester defense.

One of such forrays resulted in Wilfred Ndidi handling the ball in the 18 yard area leaving the referee with no option than point to the spot.

Alexandre Lacazette, skipper on the day stepped up and sent Kasper Schmicel the wrong way to make it 1-2 for Arsenal.

Emile Smith-Rowe was substituted for Martin Odegaard- an action Emile did not seem too happy about even though there might have been a hint of injury.

One of Leicester's bright spots in the person of Jarvie Barnes was injured and had to be stretched off.

Ghana international Daniel Amartey also came on for Johny Evans in a bid to bring some stability to the foxes defense.

Thomas Partey after a injury hit past few weeks saw some reasonably good action after replacing the Egyptian Mohammed Elneny.

In all, it has been a good week for Arsenal having progressed into the 1/16th stage of the Europa league and also moving into the top half of the EPL table albeit temporarily.
